We will consider IP Phone Cisco 8851 and CUCM 11.5, but the provided instructions are applicable to any IP Phone managed by CUCM.

nobody caught the license issue and we were stuck with only 25 out of 60 agents until after hours when we could reboot the node to apply the corrected license. This is a short article on how to create a custom background image on Cisco IP phone managed by Cisco Unified Communications Manager(CUCM). Found this out the hard way correcting a minor type with the NTP server a few days before go-live. only problem is it sometimes requires a reboot of the server (not just the UCCX engine service) to get the new license in there.

Worst case Cisco is pretty good about getting you a temp license. So if any of these ever need to change you need new licenses.

You can also generate the license MAC via this form: it's based on: the Primary Node's Time Zone, NTP Server 1, NIC Speed, NIC Duplex, Host Name, DHCP, IP Address, IP Mask, Gateway Address, Primary DNS, SMTP Location, and Certificate Information. You can get the license MAC from the UCCX AppAdmin page > System > License > Display License > it's at the bottom "Current License MAC of the node"

don't try to manually reboot it.Īs far as licensing goes, should I be obtaining my licenses prior to the upgrade, or should I upgrade and then request licensing?īefore the upgrade. It might also take 30 mins to an hour to run. You get more information if you run it from the CLI. I will also recommend you run the switch version from the CLI, NOT from the GUI. not sure if I just misread this, but wanted to clarify the correct method. you want to run the upgrade on the Primary THEN the Seconday, THEN switch versions on the Primary, THEN switch version on the secondary. , then the primary UCCX node, followed by the secondary UCCX node once the switch version on the primary is complete. Yep, I usually upgrade UCCX before CUCM because UCCX doesn't always support newer versions of CUCM, but it almost always supports older versions of CUCM. Meaning I should be able to upgrade UCCX and SocialMiner to 11.5SU1 without having to upgrade the rest of my servers right away. My main concern is that I don't want to show up on Monday and have our call center down or in partial service due to licensing issues.any advice on how I can do this comfortably? Lastly, and probably my biggest question, I have the ISOs downloaded and ready to go, but as far as licensing goes, should I be obtaining my licenses prior to the upgrade, or should I upgrade and then request licensing? (I DID attempt to get licensing, however, I was met with resistance because I did not have a MAC address for them to generate the license against.so I am a bit confused as to this process) And from what I've read, I should do SocialMiner first, then the primary UCCX node, followed by the secondary UCCX node once the switch version on the primary is complete.

(I know when we upgrade CUCM/CUPS, I will need to deploy new versions of Jabber, CIPC phones, etc)Īs far as the actual upgrade processes go, it's my understanding that these will behave much more similar to patching, in that I will install the OS on the inactive partitions and then use switch version to swap the active partition to the recently upgraded OS. We've already migrated to Finesse, so I'm assuming that provided the installations go properly, there shouldn't be any software/etc upgrades that our end users will need. I've looked at the compatibility matrices, and it appears that I should be able to do this in steps, meaning I should be able to upgrade UCCX and SocialMiner to 11.5SU1 without having to upgrade the rest of my servers right away. I've never done an in-place upgrade, (When we went from 8.5-10.5, we deployed and rebuilt the environment) so I have a handful of questions from those that have.

With the exception of SocialMiner, all of our VMs are running in HA. We are currently running CUCM 10.5, IMP 10.5, Unity 10.5, UCCX 10.6, and SocialMiner 10.6. After pushing back our upgrade once I learned of SU1's release, I am ready to kick-off the first leg of my upgrade process.
